What is the FIFA Club World Cup?

The FIFA Club World Cup is a football competition contested between the champion clubs from all six continental confederations – Asia, Europe, Africa, North America, South America and Oceania.

The first FIFA Club World Cup took place in Brazil in January 2000 and has since been held in Japan, Morocco and the UAE. The 2017 and 2018 events will be hosted by the United Arab Emirates. 

When is the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017 taking place?

The tournament is hosted in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain from 6 to 16 December.

Who is responsible for delivering the competition?

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) comprises representatives from the following three key stakeholder groups, which will be responsible for the delivery and promotion of the tournament:

  2. The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC)
  3. The Executive Affairs Authority (EAA) of Abu Dhabi

How many matches will be played?

A total of eight title-deciding matches will be played with seven continental club champions competing for the trophy.

How many teams participate in this tournament?

Seven clubs from six continents qualify for a berth in the FIFA Club World Cup. Six of these teams qualify through winning their respective confederation’s Champions League while one team qualifies through winning the host nation’s local league.

Which teams are confirmed to take part?

Four teams have been confirmed to take part in this year’s edition of the tournament:

  • Al Jazira Club from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – winner of the Arabian Gulf League 2016-2017
  • Auckland City from New Zealand – winner of the OFC Champions League 2017
  • Pachuca F.C. from Mexico – winner of the CONCACAF Champions League 2017
  • Real Madrid C.F from Spain – winner of the UEFA Champions League 2017
  • Wydad Casablanca from Morocco – winner of the CAF Champions League 2017
  • Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense from Brazil – winner of The CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Champions League 2017.

What are the teams that qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup?

The Host Nation’s Champion

In the UAE edition, the winner of the Arabian Gulf League qualifies as the host nation’s representative at the FIFA Club World Cup. Al Jazira Club from Abu Dhabi is currently set to represent the host nation at the tournament.

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Champion

The CONCACAF Champions League concluded on 24 April, 2017. Champions C.F. Pachuca, from Mexico’s Liga MX, qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017.

Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champion
The OFC Champions League concluded on 7 May, 2017. Champions Auckland City, from New Zealand’s Sterling Sports Premiership, qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champion The UEFA Champions League concluded on 3 June 2017. Champions Real Madrid C.F, from Spain, qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017

The African Football Confederation (CAF) Champion
The CAF Champions League final concluded on 5 November 2017. Champions Wydad Casablanca, from Morocco, qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champion
The AFC Champions League concluded on 25 November 2017.
Champions Urawa Red Diamonds, from Japan, qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017.

The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) Champion
The CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores final concluded on 29 November June 2017.
Champions Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, from Brazil, qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017.

Where will the matches be played?

The tournament matches will be played between two stadiums: Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi and Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain

Is there an age minimum for the event?

This is an all-ages event. However, anyone entering the stadium will be required to purchase a ticket regardless of their age.

Are drinks and food allowed in the stadium?

No outside food is permitted in the stadium, however, there will be various vendors within the in the stadium.

What can't you take into the venue for the event?

Aerosol cans, chains, studded bracelets, glow sticks, coolers or ice chests, furniture, fireworks, flares or smoke bombs, illegal drugs, laser pens and pointers, food and beverage, cameras, video or recording devices, weapons and any other items deemed to be inappropriate or dangerous by the Organiser.

Can you buy tickets at the venue on event day?

Are there any refunds or exchanges?

Once you purchase the ticket, it is a condition of sale that there are no refunds, cancellations or exchanges. By purchasing a ticket, a customer is automatically accepting all terms and conditions. Attendees are encouraged to read the terms and conditions prior to entering the venue.

Is there parking available at the venue?

No, we don’t have spaces at the stadium but there are spaces to be found at our dedicated Park & Ride Locations:

Hazza Bin Zayed (Al Ain) – 11th Street

Zayed Sport City (Abu Dhabi) – Wahat Al Karama

How much time prior to the event should I be there?

Gates open 2 hours ahead of the match start. Please refer to the match schedule for more details about the match timings.

Are there ATM's located on site?

No ATM’s available at the stadiums. We advise you to bring enough cash to avoid any disappointments.

What is the FIFA Club World Cup trophy like?

The trophy was crafted in 2005 by renowned designer Thomas Fattorini. It is fashioned from silver and gold plate and weighs 5.2kg, standing 50cm high.

 

How important is the FIFA Club World Cup in the international football calendar?

The tournament is highly competitive, with each club competing to win.  The honour of being crowned Club World Champion is unrivalled. Domestic leagues help to accommodate the fixtures so that their representative team has the best chance of success in the FIFA Club World Cup

How suitable are the weather conditions for playing football in Abu Dhabi in December?

Pleasant weather conditions at the time of the tournament are expected. Temperatures will range from 17 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius, ensuring good conditions for both football and spectators.

 

Is there accommodation available near the venue?

There is a large number of hotels located near the venues and within Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Will media need to be accredited to attend FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017?

YES – media will NOT be allowed access to the matches unless they have applied for their accreditation through FIFA prior to the tournament.

All members of the media must be registered on the FIFA Media Channel, in order to apply for accreditation for the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017. The accreditation process will open in early October. To register log on to http://media.fifa.com

 

What is the FIFA Club World Cup Experience and Excitement?

The FIFA Club World Cup Experience and FIFA Club World Cup Excitement are two mobile roadshows that will be touring across the UAE for the eight-months leading up to the tournament.  The LOC is challenging fans to participate in the largest football game that measures your skills and allow you to rank them against your community.  Paying AED20 at the entrance you will receive a Ticket Voucher

What is the Ticket Voucher?

With paid participation in the FIFA Club World Cup Experience and Excitement, fans will receive a Ticket Voucher, which will be redeemable for a ticket of equal value for the FIFA Club World Cup matches.  Redemption will take place prior to the start of the tournament and details will be e-mailed to registered fans.

What will happen at the Stadium prior to and post match?

Fans attending the match will be able to attend the ‘Fan Village’ at both stadiums prior to and after every match. The Fan Village will feature the FIFA Club World Cup Experience and Excitement and will enable the best players who participated in the community events to compete to be crowned the FIFA Club World Cup ‘Ultimate Hero’. There will be food, beverages be available to purchase.  

Your match ticket will give you free access to the Fan Village and it will be open two hours before every match and up to 90 minutes after each match. Anyone without a ticket will not be able to enter the Fan Village.
